After seven years of doing business with Zack White Leather Company I have nothing but good things to say about these folks. Thier customer service, selection, and order processing are unbeatable and they have the lowest prices on quality leather and tools I've seen.

Zack White's in Rameseur is the premier local supplier for leatherworkers, and possibly the best wholesale supplier of leatherworking equipment in the southeast. They stock a fantastic selection of hand tools, books, dyes and findings. They also have the best selection of high quality hides.

You can order by phone or online. Online ordering via the website is handled FAST. They normally have my stuff delivered two days after I placed the order. On the one occasion I've ordered something they where out of they called me the same day I placed my order, upgraded the out of stock item to a more expensive replacement at no additional charge, and still had my order shipped that afternoon.

I highly recommend visiting the store in person as the folks there are all very knowledgeable and helpful.

Some hobbiest leatherworkers swear by Tandy. Personally I've had a series of increasingly disappointing experiences with them since the local store was sold to a new owner. The selection is very limited, the store staff doesn't appear to know anything about the craft, and the prices are usually 20% - 50% higher than what Zack Whites charges for similar or superior products. Even so, if you're in a situation where you need something quick to finish a product (broke a tool, ran out of dye, whatever) and you don't mind paying extra, Tandy may be worth a visit.

Other Suppliers

Both Michael's and AC Moore stock a miserably small selection of crappy yet expensive leatherworking tools. Not worth bothering with unless you happen to run out of lace halfway through a project, as they tend to stock a fair variety of the stuff.
